Safari 3.1 Update Hangs on Mac OS X Leopard

Today I jumped on the 3.1 update for Safari via Software Update on my brand new MacBook Pro. Sadly, the installation hung with the message under the progress bar, "Configuring Installation". I restarted, tried it again, and had the same result. To fix my problem:- Deleted Safari.app from the /Applications folder
- Downloaded/Installed Safari 3.1 directly from Apple.com, here.
That's it, Safari Version 3.1 (5525.13) worked after a reboot.

Ben, you are the best. I was having trouble with this all day on my new MacBook Air. Thanks for the help.
Okay, I've tried this update. Problem is, I can't access the internet to download the new safari. Help?
Safari just hangs after the http: until it's good and ready to move. I've tried emptying the cache, emptying the history. I've tried everything. And each piece (cache and history) fills up again and leaves me with the same problem. If I delete the safari app. will I lose my bookmarks?

If you trash the .app it will not affect your preferences. They are stored independently with your user.
Hope this helps.
I had the same problem, although I am running Tiger on a PB G4. I tried running the PPC update (manually downloaded) and its still hung. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)
